So we all know the first rule of the Zombie apocalypse is Cardio! Since I have been on Cardiology for the past 3 weeks, Iâ€™m going to teach you how to get into good shape so you donâ€™t blow your heart up when youâ€™re running from Zombies, or living survivors. Both are deadly.
Go to the gym. Donâ€™t bitch about not having enough money. Planet Fitness is $10 a month. You can make a few sacrifices to make sure you have that money every month. I say the gym rather than running outside because if you donâ€™t run normally, you need to monitor your heart rate. Also, it is February. Itâ€™s cold. I hate running in the cold.
So your heart rate max when you are at the gym should be 220-age. Iâ€™m 26 so my max HR should be 194. When I am on the elliptical at the gym, I use the heart rate monitor so I can see what my HR is. When you first go to the gym, it will be fairly high. When I started going to the gym in January, it was in the high 180s. Itâ€™s now down to the low 170s. Not ideal, but Iâ€™m getting there. My point is, that your HR will go down as you exercise more. This is a good thing to monitor when youâ€™re working out. It will tell you if your heart is getting into shape!
Another thing you want to address is fatigue. The day after a good workout, your muscles can ache. When your legs are like jello the day after a workout, try the treadmill. See how long you can go. Donâ€™t be that idiot that collapses on the treadmill at the gym, but think about how much you can run, when you ran all you could the day before. It is a good thing to know.
Another thing you can do at the gym is yoga. Yes you manly men!! You can do yoga!! Women who do yoga like men who do yoga. And it is MUCH harder than you think it is. Every position engages some muscles. If you donâ€™t feel the burn, youâ€™re doing it wrong. Instead of bulking up muscles, it makes muscles longer (instead of fatter), so people who size you up think youâ€™re weaker than you actually are. It also gives you more balance. You need balance if you are to survive the Zompoc. Seriously.
Moral of the Story: Rule #1: Cardio!
