Transportation will be a big issue in the Zombie Apocalypse. What will be your primary mode of transport? Most People will rely on mechanical machines like Cars, Trucks and Motorcycles. Every one of them has its advantages. Cars spend less fuel, Trucks can carry more people and equipment and motorcycles can go off road, maneuver through wrecks and blocked freeways easily.

Then we have the more “high speed low drag individuals” that will acquire tanks, aircraft carriers, military spy planes and all sorts of high speed military equipment. Here’s some advice, if you want to drive around in a Humvee the keys to it are located in the military “Motor Pool” safe box or probably in the dead hands of the soldier near by. Make sure you scavenge for them really well. 

All these vehicles might be great if you can drive them and acquire fuel but remember gasoline doesn’t last forever, it goes bad and after a while it will be worth a lot. Also you run the risk of being caught in a predicament. How many times have we seen in movies that a group stops to siphon gas and one of the idiots of the group decides to scavenge the mini mart section or go take a piss in the middle of nowhere. Then 300 hundred zombies descend upon his body and play marbles with his eyes.

There are alternatives that can replace the hassle of machinery. We can start with a horse, it requires little maintenance and eventually feeds itself from that grass that will not be mowed by our friend Billy the Zombie neighbor. A bicycle is also a nice transportation device and if you can find a way to attach a cart to the back of it or maybe a basket like in the movie E.T. then you might be good for a quick supply run. Here’s an interesting thought that maybe hasn’t crossed your mind, shopping carts. There will be literally millions of shopping carts brought to you by our lovely society of Shopping Zombies.

You can carry basically all your gear just like the homeless although there are some modifications you will need to do in order to make the cart effective. First off they create noise you may want to reduce the noise by covering the cart with some cardboard, foam, duct tape, cloth or whatever object that can limit noise. Then you might want to install some sort of driving mechanism if you need to haul ass downhill inside the cart. Maybe you can take a shit load of those carts and create a mega protective wall of shopping carts, just like in the movie “28 Days Later”.  A lot of movies have used shopping carts. In the movie “The Road” the majority of the world is using a shopping cart as a primary carrying, scavenging transport.

Evaluate your surroundings and determine what’s best for you… You might want to just walk and forget about transportation all together. But in a world where zombies roam the main objective is to outrun your enemy or be stealthy and avoid them. Whatever options you choose make sure you think about it and don’t end up in the grasps of a zombie mob.
